People-power for the planet

We build bridges to support emerging leaders in their processes of (un)learning and (re)imagining how we think about and address climate-related (im)mobilities through the lenses of social, migrant, racial, feminist, economic and environmental justice.

The Dasht-e Kevir, or Great Salt Desert, is the largest desert in Iran. It is a primarily uninhabited wasteland, composed of mud and salt marshes covered with crusts of salt that protect the meager moisture from completely evaporating.
About us

Together, we uplift a new generation to pioneer and co-create timely, cross-sectoral, just and sustainable solutions to environmental-related injustices that reduce risks, reinstill people-power and bolster the resilience of the planet and her people to the impacts of climate change and beyond.

Our mission

Exchange knowledge, ideas and resources to support emerging leaders advance environmental mobility justice.

The Opportunity

Today, climate change impacts over 3.6 billion people globally. The impacts of human-induced climate change, environmental degradation and disasters are experienced as hunger and thirst, the loss of livelihood and for many, with that, sense of purpose, the erosion of knowledge systems, threats to cultural traditions and heritage and as loss and damage to schools, roads, sacred sites, homes and places of belonging. Leaving everything behind, millions have been forced to move or to consider doing so in order to cope. Millions more are determined to stay in place by adapting to changing environmental conditions, deepening poverty, irreparable loss and damage.

3.6 billion

People affected by climate change

Those most affected are often the least responsible for the crisis, yet they remain marginalized in climate action and migration governance. As the climate crisis and intersecting environmental, migrant, racial, gender and social injustices intensify, we are arriving at a critical juncture for those most at-risk. At the Beyond Climate Collaborative, we see an opportunity to support change-makers and emerging leaders amongst at-risk communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis and on the edge of climate-related displacement to take transformative action.

Our Approach

At the Beyond Climate Collaborative, we believe in people-power and people-agency; that all people – everywhere – hold invaluable insights into environmental and climate-related challenges they face, whether in their homes, schools, communities, workplaces or countries.

We are committed to uplifting and co-creating with and alongside change-makers to value, embrace and celebrate their knowledge and lean into the authentic gifts to create and inspire regenerative, transformative action towards a more just, sustainable and resilient world for all.

We do this by building bridges amongst change-makers, encouraging them to take transformative action and equipping them with resources to make their visions for the future a reality today.

Connecting and Sharing

This Landsat image looks like a bold watercolor. Yellow dances across the darkness with muted violet underneath. With a kind of science-fiction flair, this scene shows a portion of the Qattara Depression in Egypt.

Our vision

We envision a world where all people – everywhere – feel valued, embrace and celebrate their knowledge and lean into their authentic gifts to create and inspire regenerative, transformative action towards a more just, sustainable and resilient world for all.

Our Theory of Change

We support emerging leaders advance environmental justice by co-creating forums for (un)learning, unraveling, disrupting and radically reimagining how we think about and address climate and environmental-related (im)mobilities in the twenty-first century.

We provide platforms and opportunities for change-makers to envision the changes they want to see – in their communities, classrooms, workplaces, regions, countries and beyond – and we uplift them to be that change.

(Un)learn & unravel

We create spaces for emerging leaders to critically reflect on the systems, narratives, and histories that shape climate and environmental-related (im)mobilities. By fostering dialogue and exchange, we help dismantle entrenched assumptions and cultivate a deeper understanding of justice, equity and people-centred solutions to environmental injustices.

Disrupt

We support change-makers to challenge the status quo by identifying and addressing the root causes of inequities in knowledge production, climate action, migration governance and international development addressing climate and environmental-related (im)mobilities. Through ground-truthing and by situating contemporary realities of (im)mobility on a warming planet within intersecting systems of injustice and oppression, we strive to inspire courageous disruption of harmful practices, power structures, value and belief systems that do not serve the planet and her people.

Radically Reimagine

We co-create pathways for envisioning transformative futures rooted in justice, resilience, and equity. By encouraging bold imagination, we support emerging leaders and change-makers to envision the transformation they want to see in the spaces they occupy and support them in their processes of driving impactful solutions that reflect the world they want to build.
